huge bailout protest on wallstreet

not really covered in the news was this huge demonstration on wall street protesting the bailout plan that took place on September 25th. the chant goes something like “the bailout is bullshit. you broke it. you bought it.” i am a sucker for alliteration. combine that with a political protest and you’ve got me.

big thanks to the members of congress that NO on the robbery that is this proposed bailout! please keep saying NO! oddly, on the same day the House voted down the $700 billion dollar bailout, the Federal Reserve went ahead and pumped $630 billion into the financial system anyway. huh. so, why is the bailout needed again?

NO WALLSTREET BAILOUT!

are you upset? are you worried? i am. whenever i have gone to Las Vegas and lost money gambling, the casinos NEVER ONCE covered my losses. NOT ONCE! i took risks and gambled and had some really great up moments. but i did gamble and lose - not only my gains, but all of my money. the fact that no casino has come forward to pay me back my losses is just wrong. so i got a lawyer and plan on suing Las Vegas and the casinos and insist they cover my risks and pay for my travel expenses as well.

okay, back to reality: does that sound stupid to you? it should.
we (you and i) are being asked - told - to cover and pay for the losses of the wealthiest of wall street and in paying for those losses will get nothing in return. does that sound good to you? sound fair? it is robbery. what can be done right now is to call and email your elected representatives and oppose the $700 billion bailout. i cannot stress that enough. stop whatever it is that you are doing and CALL THEM RIGHT NOW TO OPPOSSE THIS BAILOUT. if you have time to think about it, you can do it.

i am completely beside myself anger and resentment with the railroaded plan to give $700 billion (actually with interest $1.2 trillion) to save wall street from its bad investments. i hope you are too. if not, keep sleeping.

if your elected official doesn’t oppose this bailout, then it’s safe to assume they are in the back pocket of a corporation or company that is a part of this mess. yes, i am watching you barack obama.

from the article by William Greider titled ‘Paulson Bailout Plan a Historic Swindle‘:
If Wall Street gets away with this, it will represent an historic swindle of the American public–all sugar for the villains, lasting pain and damage for the victims.

from the article by Paul Krugman titled ‘Good Ideas and Lies‘:
if Paulson can’t be honest about what he himself sent to Congress — if he not only made an incredible power grab, but is now engaged in black-is-white claims that he didn’t — there is no reason to trust him on anything related to his bailout plan.

praise for dennis kucinich

dennis kucinich giantmonster would like to thank ohio congressman dennis kucinich for his bravery in doing something that should have been done a long time ago: introduce articles of impeachment for george w. bush. 35 articles no less (you may read the summary of the 35 articles after the jump or you can download a PDF file detailing the 35 articles). thank you mr. kucinich! this was done on june 10th, but has been scarcely covered in the media. and quite sadly, nancy pelosi has been very actively blocking any moves for impeachment - including threatening “the removal of Michigan Rep. John Conyers from his chairmanship of the House judiciary committee if an impeachment inquiry were even opened.” oh Mrs. Pelosi (and you too Harry Reid), it is clearly time for you to go. though this resolution has been table for review within committee (meaning it’s effectively dead) Kucinich has vowed to bring his resolution back in 30 days if the Judiciary Committee, to which it was referred Wednesday, doesn’t act on it. right on!

summary of 35 Articles for Impeachment after this proverbial jump …

the empire strikes barak

when politics collide with my hard wired sense of star wars nerdy-ness, magical things can happen. the battles and infighting between our next president barack obama and former first lady hilary clinton can best be summed up in this awesome clip titled the empire strikes barrack. totally laugh it up fuzzball - it’s good stuff! i feel oddly compelled to watch the empire strikes back again. thanks brit for the link!

300 women VS monsanto

gmo corn i liked reading this: Around 300 women rural residents in Brazil burst into a property owned by the US company Monsanto and destroyed a plant nursery and crops containing genetically modified corn. the women were from the group via campesina and were protesting brazil allowing monsanto and bayer to move ahead with developing genetically modified crops (GMC). brazil legalized genetically modified crops in 2005.  last month french officials banned one of the approved monsanto GMCs to be grown in brazil, MON810, after doubts over the GMC’s safety. go ladies! monsanto is evil.

rigging the vote

optical scan voting machine it’s super tuesday (isn’t every day super, though, really?) and that means you are supposed to vote. with that in mind, does your vote actually get counted? it has been 8 years since the 2000 election and electing officials to office still remains broken and rigged. please watch this very homemade but accurate video showcasing how simple it is to hack and change the results of optical scan vote machines. while the video focuses on recent new hampshire primary, these same optical scan machines are used throughout the country and are becoming the preferred system in california - even though they are still hackable! related links:

kucinich drops bid for president

dennis kucinich sad news: the only actual democrat running for the president of the united states has dropped out of the race. dennis kucinich, the only other democrat presidential hopeful (other than mike gravel) to vote no for the iraq war and no on subsequent funding of the war, and the only democrat presidential hopeful with a working, non-socialized health care plan - free for every american - that does not cater to insurance companies, has decided to withdraw his bid for president. kucinich will make this announcement tomorrow. oh well. kucinich was treated very poorly by the traditional news media during the race. i really cannot trust any of candidates that were short sighted enough to vote yes on the iraq war resolution in 2002 (senate vote - house of representatives vote) and give the power to declare war over to the president. so i must vote my conscience. in looking at all the candidates, electing ron paul is the only hope for real change. so ron paul for president in 2008. yeah, i said it. and i mean it.

only a terrorist would grow marijuana

‘marijuana is evil’ says John P. Walters i just read this story titled drug czar gives warning: federal official calls marijuana growers dangerous terrorists. terrorists? i have to do a double take on the use of the word ‘terrorists’. really? are you serious? yes, i guess you are. John P. Walters, the director of National Drug Control Policy in the US states is noted as saying ‘the people who plant and tend the gardens are terrorists who wouldn’t hesitate to help other terrorists get into the country with the aim of causing mass casualties.‘ wow. that is pretty heavy. so marijuana growers are classified as terrorists? i have yet to see any pot growers bomb embassies or fly planes into buildings. but he must know what he’s talking about. Mr. Walters, directing a message at marijuana smokers & users, is also quoted as saying “Don’t buy drugs. They fund violence and terror.” really? okay. i agree on that - funding violence and terror is a bad thing.

hey, speaking of funding violence and terror and the war on drugs, did you know that in may of 2001 the united states gave $43 million dollars to the Taliban government in afghanistan for declaring the cultivation of opium poppies illegal? yes. with US tax dollars that could have gone to any number of domestic policy issues, the bush administration gave $43 million dollars in funding to the Taliban regime. nevermind that, at that time, the Taliban government was giving sanctuary to Osama bin Laden (wanted then for the 1998 bombing of the US embassies in Africa), the Taliban government was providing a base of operations for the al-Qaeda network, the Taliban government was known for committing massive human rights violations, or that the opium ban was never enforced and was actually used by the Taliban to drive up opium prices and raise more money (brilliant marketing move though).

“Don’t buy drugs. They fund violence and terror.” i love the irony of our federal government. really. it’s fantastic! take the profit out of pot and legalize marijuana already. this war on drugs is just idiotic.

blackwater sues former employees families

blackwater.jpg redefining the terms scumbags and war profiteers, the very politically connected, private military for hire (mercenaries) group Blackwater is suing families of it’s former employees to keep them from inquiring as to how their family members died. unbelievable. these family members worked as civilian contractors for Blackwater in iraq and were brutally killed and mutilated on march 31st, 2004 in Fallejuh. the families of the victims wanted to know how that happened. after Blackwater refused to share any information about the incident as to how or why they were killed, the families were told by Blackwater that they would have to sue Blackwater to find out. they did. the families filed suit in 2005 as their only course of action. after Blackwater lost every appeal against the suit all the way to the U.S. supreme court, Blackwater has reversed tactics. Now Blackwater is trying to sue the families of the American contractors for $10 million to keep them from finding out how their family members died. Blackwater is also trying to place a gag order on the families to keep them from talking about the case. feel free to contact your senators and congressional representatives to let them know this isn’t right. additonal information on the democracy now website. there is also a Blackwater Victims website seeking donations to help the families of the victims defense fund.

say no to michael baroody

stop michael baroody president bush has nominated michael baroody to be the head of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). ironically, baroody’s background is on the other side of consumer safety, serving as executive vice president at the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) for the last 13+ years. see any conflict of interest there? as stated on CNN with Lou Dobbs, “you can’t make this stuff up.” from the website stopbaroody.com, baroody fought to allow a higher level of arsenic in drinking water, lobbied to eliminate the rights of Americans exposed to asbestos, lobbied to keep corporate documents regarding unsafe products from the public, worked to immunize corporate CEOs from criminal liability for marketing deadly products to the public, and much more anti-consumer protection measures. should he get the nomination, he is slated to receive a $150,000 severance package from NAM. wow! you can take some action by emailing your senators using the handy form at peopleoverprofits.org. some senators are aware of what a poor choice baroody is to the CPSC and have moved to block baroody’s nomination. but the more voices that weigh in the better.

war profiteering

iraq for sale: tank with war profiteer logos a post from politics.tv (and also touched on at alternet and defensenews), documentary film maker robert greenwald testified at a hearing in US Congress on may 10, 2007 about war profiteering. greenwald requested to show a few minutes of one of his films, iraq for sale: the war profiteers, but Republicans blocked his request. here is the 4 minute clip from iraq for sale that Congress didn’t see.

US moonbase the united states is finally getting its priorities in serious order. you know what i’m talking about. and - no - not those silly things like universal health care for every american, a clean & renewable energy policy, diplomacy, restoration of habeus corpus, electric cars for everybody, or open source voting machines. nope. that’s silly. but dude - we’re going to the moon! totally! we are going, then we’ll build a permanent moon base, and then head off to mars too! sure, it will cost 100’s of billions of dollars. but dude - it’s the moon! yes! i am all for advancing scientific discovery - but - i really think we should fix simple things here on earth first, like levees and pollution. seems easier. i believe david cross summarizes this best …

gargantuan political assholes

gargantuan assholes
it’s a war of the gargantuas! or to be more specific, a very heated shouting match between the gargantuan fox news political assholes bill o’reilly and geraldo rivera. complete with aggressive finger pointing! and grand-standing! wow. i find myself agreeing with geraldo (did i just type that?) though it’s hard to hear him with the loud sounds of bill o’reilly losing his mind throughout the clip. and yes it is a treat to see bill o’reilly wound up as tight as winnebago man. between geraldo & bill, i can’t tell which is the green gargantua or the brown gargantua. luckily, there is video provided below so you can decide for yourself.

got milk? got rBST? got cancer?

milk & rBST are you drinking non-organic milk or eating non-organic dairy products? please stop. chances are the milk and dairy products you are consuming contain a gift from monsanto (the makers of round-up, agent orange, and nutrasweet /aspartame) called rBST - or Recombinant Bovine Somatotropin (also rBGH). and you should avoid anything with rBST like the plague. although legal in the united states, rBST has been banned in the EU, canada, japan, and other nations due to tests that show it’s link to cancer. monsanto’s own tests on rats showed this but those results were excluded from the report to the FDA. and monsanto has gone out of it’s way to suppress that information, as well as suppress the labeling of milk & dairy containing rBST. please watch this youtube clip from the movie The Corporation titled Fox News Kills Monsanto Milk Story (embedded movie below). more info at alternet.org and foxBGHsuit.com. more about the absolutely evil monsanto via the organic consumers association website. avoid any dairy with rBST. support organic dairy farmers by purchasing organic milk and diary products.

16 Words by margo guryan

margo guryan - 16 words in light of the current and growing fake news reports and bogus claims to hype up and ‘justify’ a new war with iran, please be sure to watch this amazing video by margo guryan titled Margo Guryan / 16 words. brilliant animation and political commentary. these are the same 16 words from bush’s 2003 state of the union speech to justify a war with iraq. lies, lies, and more lies.

can you spare a minute?

exxon gas station sign according to cnn money, exxon earned a record breaking $377.6 billion dollars last year. wow. that registers as making $75,000 per minute in 2006. again, that’s seventy five thousand dollars per minute. holy crap. in the time it took for you to read this post, the kids at exxon would have earned over $10,000. wow.

aqua teen hair-larious

aqua teen prank how do you deal with a truly bullshit media circus? the same media that gives a cake walk to our political leaders on pretty much everything but gets irate when their own dumb dialouge and faux discussion format is spun back at them? simple: talk about hair. just hair. and take talking about hair seriously. very seriously. then watch the press get mad. brilliant. i love these guys! also, does this look like a bomb to you? then how about this? ‘dude, there’s a light-up LED thingy with a bit-map character flipping me off on the overpass … must be a terrorist bomb plot.’ are we that far gone? then we have become too paranoid. or is only the city of boston (or boston’s mayor) that lame? good photo gallery of the event. and a great video of the making of the LED signs on youtube too. the hair-raising press conference is below.

democrat senate too?

did somebody say that the democrats took the senate too? that would give this congress - house and senate - a complete democrat majority. wow - i just may take off work tomorrow.

have a drink on me, george!

drinks the widely scattered yet collectively unified minds of giantmonster raise a mighty full glass and toast the sad sack of shit in the white house and all his pals on this very excellent election day afterglow. it’s okay to start drinking again george. thanks to everyone who came out and voted.

rumsfeld resigns! (fucking duh! - fucking double duh!)
house of congress with democrat majority!
speaker of the house, nancy pelosi!
south dakota rejects abortion ban!
bye bye santorum!
stem cell bill passes in missouri!
jerry mcnerny wins in california!

hooray for torture!

vampire bush seems like only yesterday in 2003 donald rumsfeld was complaining that iraqis were violating the geneva conventions by showing footage of american soldiers. it still seems like only yesterday in the hype to go to war media outlets would frequently report how saddam hussien violated the geneva conventions, making him and the whole country of iraq even more evil and thus worthy of invasion and american freedom. those were the days! the habeus corpus days, which are looong behind us now (along with the geneva conventions too). with that gone, the popular form of torture known as waterboarding is making a comeback! but really, what could go wrong? sad sad sad. i can watch stephen colbert’s report for actual insight and almost laugh. but the fact that this is really happening is really not that funny. see, congress just approved bush’s detainee interogation bill, which is a polite way to word the gutting of our right to a trial by jury and the legalization of torture and permanent detention. more information on george bush’s vast new presidential powers and the detainee bill voting record on glenn greewald’s blog. this is really really awful. our nation is under attack from religious extremists allright. the trouble is - they are in the white house.

liquid explosives

so, yeah, liquid explosives. how is everyone handling that notion? doesn’t sit well with me. why would DHS & airport security dump out all potential and suspect liquid explosives into the same garbage cans and do so out in public? seems to be more of a spectacle than a safety measure. actual liquid explosives (note: this does not include breast milk) are extremely volatile. mixing them up in a garbage can in the middle of an airport would also strike me as being more volatile and outright dangerous. doesn’t make sense. and of the twenty four muslims arrested so far, none were in possession of any explosives nor any explosive devices, only the ‘precursors’ for possible liquid explosives: baked beans, peanut butter, and sugar solutions. yup. no joke (read page one of the previous link). so this ban on liquids & gels doesn’t make sense to me. unless it’s meant to simply panic, inconvenience, or distract people. why would the people of the UK or the USA need to be distracted right now? oh, yes, the israel-lebanon war, right. and now while at the airport you can be detained for having a mean face or just exhibiting possible hostile intent. but with all that’s going on, how can you not have a mean face? so much paranoia - it’s just absurd. a better perspective to the liquid explosive hype & plot comes from craig murray, UK ambassador to Uzbekistan. please read the article The UK Terror plot: what’s really going on? i hope more media outlets actually look into this story and not just regurgitate talking points and headlines. meanwhile, i have to go re-pack my bags for airport travel.

UPDATE: another important read via the register, UK: Mass Murder In The Skies: Was The Plot Feasible? goes into the very real difficulties of obtaining & making real liquid explosives.

galloway in nine minutes …

youtube clip of the fiesty george galloway VS a talking head from UK’s sky news. teleprompter-reading skills don’t come in too handy with the out spoken george galloway (see previous clip of galloway speaking before the US senate). despite getting his microphone turned down halfway through the interview, it’s galloway by a landslide …

war

someday people will regard the word and concept of ‘war’ as offensive and unthinkable. i feel it has to reach that phase on a much larger scale as a word to carry any weight and affect one’s thinking. i equate war as i do the words and concepts of murder and rape. when i hear people use the term ‘well, war is sometimes necessary’ i have sympathy for them, being locked in that mindset. is rape sometimes necessary? do you feel the need to resort to rape to resolve a conflict? rape to get what you want? how about murder? or incenst or child abuse - ever find those sometimes necessary to deal with situations in life? it’s the same type of thinking, so what is the difference? strange that the onset of war allows for all of those atrocities and more to take place under the veil of war. all based around ‘war is sometimes necessary.’ if you subscribe to ‘war is necessary’ then you should think of that term as ’sometimes i feel it is necessary to rape and murder another man or woman to get what i want.’ that means that it is hard wired within you to fight with your neighbor, brother, and sister until you are strengthened or avenged and they are weakened and fearful. war is the complete and absolute absense of intelligence, compassion, love, understanding, empathy, and thought. i am incredibly saddened by all the events of late in the world. so much war, touching on every continent on the planet. i don’t really have a comment on any of it right now. i just wish for common sense and compassion. i wish for peace and civility. war is depressing, vile, and atrocious.

daily show: snakes on a plame

TDS_Snakes-Plame.jpg i keep watching this clip from the daily show segment called snakes on a plame and laughing. so good. novak is such a pet reporter for the white house, but combined with the rove and the cheney, it’s deadly. just watch. thanks crooks and liars for the post! & thank you jon stewart and crew for the laughs.

where cheney invests his money

good read on counterpunch titled: The Veep’s Curious Investment Portfolio: Is Cheney Betting On Economic Collapse? it gets the most of it’s data from a kiplinger’s article titled Are Dick Cheney’s money managers betting on bad news? (see also the kiplingers article on msn with more details on the investments). analysis of the investments show that Cheney is counting on a steadily weakening dollar and interest rates to rise within the US. point being it that it’s going to get much harder to make financial ends meet. of course, Cheney’s economic planners could be making those investments to not make any money (just for funsies!), which means all will be easy. but somehow i doubt that’s the case. good to see the existing wealthy folks who benefit a great deal from the bush administration tax cuts, or rather ‘tax relief‘ as it’s been branded, take their money and re-invest it back in the US economy (note: this last sentence was unfiltered sarcasm).
