in having to recreate a master drawing for one of my art classes, i looked around for good (and free) online images of illustrations by the great french artist paul pierre prud’hon. but i couldn’t find any good resources with hi-resolution images. so i went ahead and made one. here you will find 25 images of prud’hon’s classic female and male nude studies & drawings that i scanned from various books. and they are available in a very hi-resolution .zip archive for you to download. the 25 gallery images shown in this post are previews of all the images in the archive, but they are no more than 900 pixels wide or tall (not great for printing). the archive folder contains the hi-res jpeg files of paul pierre prud’hon’s academic drawings, scanned at 300dpi. they are excellent for printing and for reference.
Download all of the above images by the Paul Pierre Prud’hon in hi-res, jpeg format by clicking the link below:
over at the beautiful pointless museum there is a truly excellent photo post of scans from the usborne book of the future: a trip into the year 2000 and beyond. when you have an art book published in 1979 that is broken down into three sections which are titled Part1: Robots, Part 2: Future Cities, and Part 3: Star Travel, complete sci-fi awesomeness and insane galactic speculation is bound to happen. page 44 talks about instant electronic voting. page 58 colonizing venus. page 70 shows commuting by rocket pack. powerful stuff in there, all speculating on the year 2000 too! yar!
i’ve been really digging the art, illustration, writing, and posts over at scott campbell’s blog titled ’scott-c’. it’s full of rad little characters, illustrations, and curious drawings. some samples of the radness are below (the king of kong cover fold out is 5-ways awesome!). so check it out already! & thanks rhode for the tip!
i snapped a lot of pics from the most recent & most amazing Sylvia Ji solo show at white walls gallery in san francisco this last month. the show ran from june 14th, 2008 through to july 5th 2008. and it really was amazing! such beautiful paintings and imagery! and it looked like every piece sold too - congrats white walls & congrats sylvia ji!. all the pics i snapped are posted after the break in the gallery as well as posted on my flickr site. be sure to check out the great video of sylvia ji preparing for her last show at white walls from february 2007 (prior to this one). oy - her work is SOOO good! thanks sylvia for your artwork!
dark roasted blend has a great post with some amazing photos of artwork by jim denevan and his incredible and beautiful large scale sand drawings. seriously very beautiful. and seriously very large! the artwork seen below is three miles across and took 100 miles of walking to draw the pattern. a massive undertaking that would only be temporary. i love it! i posted some of the photos below, but be sure to check out the post on dark roasted blend for more amazing pics.
quite possibly the coolest graffiti project i have ever seen. absolutely amazing animation considering all of it was done in public as painted graffiti on walls & sidewalks. wow. i’m talking about muto: an ambiguos animation painted on public walls, done in buenos aires and baden. wow. double wow. the amount of planning and time this must have taken boggles the mind. please watch it. it should amaze you. be sure to also check out blu’s other amazing animations & videos when you can.

if you like to browse websites with lots of interesting eye candy, then i recommend yanko design. it’s a great design blog that showcases cutting edge design ranging from concepts, products, gadgets, interior spaces, industrial design, branding, tools, toys, everyday items, and more. it’s very advertisement heavy, but still very much worth a visit.
very cool time-lapsed video clip of what is called an automatic graffiti robot. the art is created using a spray can attached to cables running on a X / Y axis. the cables control or press the nozzle on the spray can at precise moments. the cable are moved & controlled by a computer program. it reminds me of a giant plotter printer. very cool idea! the clip is from 2006 but i haven’t been able to find any other info on this artist other that the video. anyway, enjoy!
take a look at a really amazing animated short by alan becker via deviantArt titled animator vs. animation. the battle takes place on the flash interface! so so great & clever! thank you alan for the hard work and great animation!
i am very much enjoying the illustrations created by artist christoph niemann. very clean, narrative, playful, and bold. you may recognize some of his work from the new yorker. f you have a moment, please check out his website.
if you are like me, you’ve always wanted to give all your friends syphillis, maybe some HIV, a touch of black death, and even some athlete’s foot each & every holiday season. well now you finally can! the geniuses at GIANTmicrobes have created a plush line of just that - giant microbes! yes, there’s the flesh eating virus (with embroidered knife & fork!), gonorrhea, mad cow, and so much more! with marketing tag lines for their dolls such as scum that go “he may look like the scum of the earth, but once you cross paths he’s sure to grow on you” - how can you resist?
i’ve been really enjoying the art of aaron jasinski. great illustrations, style, scenes, and colors. his website has a great interface too, but you will find his gallery on deviantART easier to peruse. thank you aaron for your work!
is it me you’re looking for? answer: yes. why wasn’t sculpture class like this when i was in school? to truly understand the magic of the video for Hello by lionel richie, one must become the video for Hello by lionel richie. hence, the hello experiment. the hello experiment seeks to capture the wonder, imagination, and beauty that is lionel richie’s massive jaw lovingly formed in wet brown clay by sightless, open hearted souls. awesome! it’s either a goofy and fun nostalgic paraody or a tragic spell created by demons to open a hell-mouth that will swallow us all. watch and see (note: please download the song Hello at your leisure so you can sculpt your very own lionel richie). thanks cobras! download: Lionel_Richie_Hello.zip (3.9 megabytes)
