seeed’s cool stop motion video ding

seeed - ding
really liking the video for the song ‘ding’ by the german reggae/dancehall band seeed. it features some really nice stop motion animation. honestly, what is not to like about a red hairy ape in a top hat drinking & dancing at a club?

bendito machine

bendito machine
from 2006 and still very cool. a great animated piece directed and animated by jossie malis at zumbakamera called bendito machine. very well done. dark & a little twisted too. watch it. you will like it.

winobot

winobot from the beautifully twisted wonder-showzen (and i suspect the same smart & twisted minds that animated the extra special he-bro) comes a new sheriff in town. half wino + half machine = 100% winobot.

pooping so cute!

how to poop wow - i have been going to the bathroom all wrong these last 30+ years. at least that’s what i get from watching this animated japanese instructional video on potty training called how to poop. there are no songs nor any signing, i do not teleport onto the toilet seat like this animated kid does, my feces and urine do not laugh and smile back at me, no sound effects to alert me of impending bathroom trip, and no pinata breaks open after i take a dump (well, maybe it does somewhere in the world, which is kind of nice when you think about it). be sure to watch for the live action segment at the end - grunting never looked so cute. watch. learn. enjoy.

animated knots

animated knots knots? who needs knots? carrick bend? bowline? trucker’s hitch? trilene? yeah, knots! if you need knots, check out the great site called animated knots by grog! yes, grog. grog seems to love knots. and these knot demos are animated - frame by frame, reversible, fast & slow - so you can learn how to make the knot correctly. how great is that? grog has sections for climbing, fishing, boating/sailing, scouting, search & rescue, and rope care too. a really great resource. i have that trilene knot memorized from my youth. thanks for the link brad!

run rabbit run

idol, animation by run wrake really great and slightly disturbing animation called idol. created by run wrake. great 2-D style animation using classic schoolbook illustrations. found via the motiongrapher website.

stop motion baked goods

baked goods this clip sent in from brit, a highly rad stop motion animation short film from milkfat dot com called baked goods. clever, nicely animated, and semi-educational. funny, i always added the butter in with the water (no double boiler/separate pan type action). i also use the same kitchen aid mixer too. baking is fun. enjoy!

burning safari

burning safari though it’s been out for a while, take some time to check out this great & expressive CG animated short called burning safari. well worth a viewing, maybe several. created by french animation school students vincent aupetit, jeanne irzenski, maxime maleo, florent de la talle, aurélien predal, and claude-william trebutien.

live action space invaders

human space invaders this is great! the classic arcade video game space invaders like you never seen it before. it’s space invaders performed live in a theater by the not-so-noisy group. great!!! same space invader sounds too. very fun to watch. check out the website for more info (website is in french).

amazing screw on head

screw on head my friend goose sent me a link to rad pilot episode on the sci-fi channel called the amazing screw on head (direct link to video viewer/player here). it’s really really good. based on the comic book by mike mignola, who also did the art direction. developed & written by brian fuller. main characters are voiced by paul giamatti (screw on head, the hero), david hyde-pierce (rad & bratty villain), and molly shannon (ex-girlfriend, vampire). the look, story setting, and character styles are superb and the dialogue and story is well written and funny too. please check it out. i love the line ‘you make me feel alive and full bodied!’ and ‘i’m going smoke you … any last words before i spark it?’ so good.

washington … washington

george washington a link sent in from my friend leigh, there’s a brand new history lesson about america’s first president, george washington. not just that old ‘i cannot tell a lie/chop down the cherry tree’ bullshit. no. this was important stuff. like how he rode a crystal horse, grew to 12 stories tall, invented cocaine. lots of stuff. just watch brad neely’s animation below and learn …

harmonics visualization

john whitney - visual harmony here’s a really lovely music & sound experiment using flash actionscript called the whitney music box - brought to you by the talented jim bumgardner of krazydad.com and coverpop.com. read more about the whole process and thought behind the whitney music box on krazydad’s blog entry on visual harmony. my favorite is variation 6: 48 tones in one octave. the whitney music box is based on the theories of john whitney (more on john whitney here and here) and his book digital harmony. the cool thing about the whitney music box is that while john whitney was interested in turning musical ideas into motion graphics, jim bumgardner’s whitney music box does the inverse - turning one of whitney’s key animation ideas back into music. very very cool.

potions made by children

picture of a bird video sent in from my friend isiah, please watch & enjoy this song & video from the group potions made by children titled picture of a bird. really cool & imaginative homemade animation going on there featuring hand-sewn dolls, paper cutouts, illustrations, puppets, and some great colors. found via wired blog.

arnold’s neighborhood

arnold's neighborhood these are the people in my neighborhood - all republicans trying to take over california! or is it ‘khelly-fohr-neeya’? didn’t you know about arnold’s promise to deliver california to the republicans? it’s called proposition 77. where instead of a voter determined process, appointed judges - not elected officials - would draw the voting district lines in the state. reminds me of a similar story from texas in 2003. that’s a no vote, by the way. so now watch this nicely done flash parody of arnold schwarzenegger’s neighborhood and see all his fwendz!!!

cool king kong clip

classic king kong armature & peter jackson scenes here’s a great movie clip from the kong is king post-production diary showcasing the original king kong stop-motion puppet armature! introduced by peter jackson and bob burns (burns is owner of the original kong armature), the clip shows some behind the scene footage of the new kong movie and the classic armature’s tour of weta studios. towards the end of the clip, the original king kong armature is actually animated. soo cool!
