i have to give a big hat tip and a deep waist bow of respect to my good friend jason sadler on his build of the ultimate star wars halloween costume. not a tie fighter pilot mind you, no. this is the actual tie fighter itself! made from trashcan lids, pvc tubing, foam core, four baby food containers, and a whole lot of love. go jason! crush the rebellion!

in keeping with the gomer inspirational poster theme, derekmonster sends in the image below with the reminder that while you are definitely awesome, you may not be as awesome as this poster.
my friend derek introduced me to the very funny and addictive cartoon The Venture Brothers on adult swim. i am hooked. a bit of a parody of the johnny quest cartoon, venture brothers seems to get better and better as i watch it. as a card carrying member of the nerd, gomer, & geek community (with an emphasis on the sci-fi) i doubt any one fellow nerd could resist the strong comedic gravitational pull that the venture brothers provides. a sample of such pull can be found in the venture brothers season 2 opener. so dumb, yet soo good. and i tip my hat at the duran duran ‘hungry like the wolf’ video reference. very nice.
nice scratch track video of james earl jones doing the first pass of dialogue for darth vader. the vader sessions. or maybe this is the the real dialogue, as it was meant to be seen & heard? hmmm. funny video created by the kids at akjak & link sent in from the derekmonster. please watch the vid below & enjoy! remember, daddy is the breadwinner.
science time! from eepybird comes the The Extreme Diet Coke & Mentos Experiments. a series of beautiful scientific tests that combines 200 liters of Diet Coke and over 500 Mentos (the freshmaker) mints. the results are lovely and messy. and there’s lots of other videos to watch of experiments (or is it experi-mints?) from eepybird as well. well done lads - well done!

i signed an online petition a long while back that would request for george lucas to release the original & unaltered star wars trilogy for sale on DVD. don’t know if it worked. it might have just caused little dollar signs to form in mr. lucas’s eyes. whichever the case, this september, the original and unaltered star wars trilogy will finally be released on DVD. the dvd will be available for a limited time (remember that this has always done by lucasfilm to create massive movie pre-orders) from september to december. nerd party at my house.
nice little homemade video of a well done lightsaber duel. take notice george! there’s no effortless hopping between rocks floating on lava. and even better, mr. lucas: none of your dialogue! yay! these guys did a great job. my inner-nerd is proud. though it is hard to beat the mighty low tech ferocity of the classic star wars kid. oy!

airline snake safety is important.
just realised i’m gonna miss the APE con this weekend - darn it. APE stand for Alternative Press Expo (& the con stands for convention). if your not outside today planting no less than 12 five gallon-size boxwood shrub bushes in your yard, you should check it out. there is always some really great art at APE. great prints and books. plus it’s a chance to meet the artists and creators themselves! i’m pretty sure my friends rhode, jamie, oliver, and derek are going. i may try to get there on sunday. getting there is easy. how to not spend a ton of cash on all the cool art books, zines, & illustrations is the real dilemma.
it’s friday. march 17th. also saint patrick’s day. legend has it that saint patty led the snakes out of ireland. how fitting, ’cause there a whole lotta snakes going on today. yes, i’m talking about the much-circulated preview for the best/worst movie to possibly come out - ever. i’m talking about the snakes on a plane trailer!! everyone’s got a case of snakes on a plane fever. there’s t-shirts too! i first heard about this gem via defamer. question: after playing mace windu, where can you go? answer: on a mother-fuckin’ airplane - with some mother-fuckin’ snakes! and yes, i’m planning on camping out for this one. enjoy.
yet more star wars related halloween stuff. starwars.com has some very nice & easy halloween masks you can download & print for trick or treat fun. PDF format. cut out the eyes, put on yer face - boom! finished. the illustrations are really well done. and credit is given to the artists who drew the masks too. yoda, chewie, & darth to name a few are all up there. but look - there’s no jar-jar! george is learning! special times.
man, i feel lazy. especially when i see rad projects like this going on for halloween. check out this flickr photoset of an AT-AT Costume for Halloween 2005. holy yikes! that’s awesome. he even added a lil’ luke skywalker dangling from the underside!!!! yes!!! awesome!!! uncomfortable - yes. not much ability to dance - yes. but again, awesome. more pics of the at-at in action can be seen here.
looking for a neat home project? something practical yet mighty? then be sure to check out this do-it-yourself flamethrower project page. amazing step-by-step tutorial on all you could hope for in a home-made flamethrower. this guy is a one man a-team, or at least two and a half mr. t’s rolled into one. if you love gardening yet hate pulling weeds, then this is the project for you!
here’s a great movie clip from the kong is king post-production diary showcasing the original king kong stop-motion puppet armature! introduced by peter jackson and bob burns (burns is owner of the original kong armature), the clip shows some behind the scene footage of the new kong movie and the classic armature’s tour of weta studios. towards the end of the clip, the original king kong armature is actually animated. soo cool!
this is dumb - but that’s why i like it. Shatner VS Heston! short but funny. i think this battle has been raging in the back of everyones mind for some time now. it’s nice to see it someone taking the time to bring it up. who will win?
Charleton Heston: Said “damned” and “ape” in the same sentence (that’s one point for Heston).
William Shatner: Played a cop named “Hooker” (that’s one point for Shatner).
such good times.
