though it’s been several days since his death, i wanted to give a post saying farewell to the very very funny harvey korman who died on may 29th, 2008. thank you mr. korman for your work and for continuing to make me laugh and laugh! yes, there was the very funny carol burnett show and numerous other characters that you played so well (well, except maybe the cooking show host on the star wars christmas special). but for me nothing compares to the insanity of Hedly Lamar from Blazing Saddles! so good! also, there’s a great & in depth interview with harvey korman on youtube (in 3 parts). you will be missed, mr. korman! rest in peace!

my dvd player and i are very pleased to hear that the second season of the upright citizens brigade is finally coming out on dvd september 18th! yes! thank you jason for the news! upright citizens brigade season 1 has been on heavy rotation in the giantmonster corporate headquarters for quite some time now. season 2 is long overdue. oh comedy central, what has taken you so long? the mighty upright citizens brigade comprised of matt besser, amy poehler, ian roberts, matt walsh, and a great supporting crew is so very funny. i can only hope i do not have to wait as long for season 3.
i’m a little slow. i gauge this by many factors. one is that i am just now catching on (how did i miss them?) to the comedy stylings of tim and eric via the shrek the third super dumb good funny promos that many a blog covered. thankful & curious, i looked further. to my delight i found tim and eric dot com and have been very happy. tim and eric have got pranks and movies and stuff! just take a look at this clip from their show titled Encounters and another clip titled Horizons Calendar. yay! laughing! thank you tim & eric!

like wow man, it’s totally psychedelic republicans trading cards! all colorful and crazy. hilarious website with equally hilarious images and hippied-out bios of george w bush, jesse helms, dick cheney, antonin scalia, laura bush, john ashcroft, and so many others. fun facts like nickname, favorite album, christian coalition rating, and spirit animal for each character card. there’s desktops too! quality funny-ness. cards are limited edition print too (order fast!). they sort of take the edge off how horrible this administration is. actually, no, i take that back - that’s not possible. but at least the cards are funny!
ha! anthony bourdain’s post on michael ruhlmans’ blog titled guest blogging: a bourdain throwdown about the food network and food network chefs is just too damn accurate, biting, and to-the-point hilarious. so true that you really should check it out. giantmonster recommends putting down your drink prior to reading, otherwise you will spit it out from laughing. the post begins with ‘nobody asked me, but …’ and then doesn’t let up. great chef and a great writer too. thank you, mr. bourdain, for phrasing things so well! on a different tone is an equally well written and poignant article by anthony bourdain titled watching beirut die, written when bourdain’s ‘no reservations‘ film crew was trapped in beirut during israel’s bombing of lebanon. check that out too if you like. food network post found via metafilter.
the ever funny & always powerful musical comedy genius duo known as tenacious d will be playing a concert in san francisco this month. their last show in SF was in 2002 at slims i believe. the D is on tour for their new movie tenacious d: the pick of destiny. (check out the trailer - it’s got sasquatch in it!). tickets for the SF show are still on sale too! the show is monday november 20th at the bill graham civic auditorium. and tickets are not cheap - $50+ after taxes & fees (hence the not sold out part). go & i’ll see you there! meanwhile, enjoy the D below.

my friend derek introduced me to the very funny and addictive cartoon The Venture Brothers on adult swim. i am hooked. a bit of a parody of the johnny quest cartoon, venture brothers seems to get better and better as i watch it. as a card carrying member of the nerd, gomer, & geek community (with an emphasis on the sci-fi) i doubt any one fellow nerd could resist the strong comedic gravitational pull that the venture brothers provides. a sample of such pull can be found in the venture brothers season 2 opener. so dumb, yet soo good. and i tip my hat at the duran duran ‘hungry like the wolf’ video reference. very nice.

movie mash-up moments make me laugh. the last really good one was the re-take on The Shining. now, such crafty powers have been unleashed on a more biblical scale. time to pre-order tickets to that awesome new teen comedy drama religious flick called 10 things i hate about commandments.
do you know who the yes men are? have you seen the movie about the yes men called the yes men? these are the same guys who brought you the fantastic barbie liberation front (or BLO) where voice boxes for barbie dolls and gi joe soldier toys where switched and then repackaged & placed on store shelves. brilliant! they also did a great social commentary on the WTO, seen extensively in the yes men movie, and on the DOW chemical company. anyway, on may 7th, 2006, the yes men, posing as representatives from halliburton, where recently invited to speak a corporate conference sponsored by LexisNexis Mealey publications. there, the yes men enveiled halliburton’s solution for global warming: the SurvivaBall!

one thing good about this non stop rain party is getting stay inside and catch up on movies or re-watch rad ones. in this case, wet hot american summer is one of those rad ones. so i am highly recommending it. seriously dumb good funny. do not rent it if you don’t like to laugh a lot though. directed by david wain and written by both david wain and michael showalter (from the state and stella). stars lots of funny follks including michael ian black, janeane garofalo, molly shannon. not overhyping it here. but it is a really funny movie. or, you have no sense of humor.

it’s friday. march 17th. also saint patrick’s day. legend has it that saint patty led the snakes out of ireland. how fitting, ’cause there a whole lotta snakes going on today. yes, i’m talking about the much-circulated preview for the best/worst movie to possibly come out - ever. i’m talking about the snakes on a plane trailer!! everyone’s got a case of snakes on a plane fever. there’s t-shirts too! i first heard about this gem via defamer. question: after playing mace windu, where can you go? answer: on a mother-fuckin’ airplane - with some mother-fuckin’ snakes! and yes, i’m planning on camping out for this one. enjoy.
