gm crops are bad

a recent Soil Association report that shows Genetically Modified crops decrease yields, whether it’s cotton or soybeans or corn. i found this information from an online article via Science News Review titled Biotech Propaganda Meets Scientific Reality. also greenpeace has a great post on the evils of monsanto, a chemical company with an aggressive & profit driven involvement in global gm crops. the more learn about gm crops and gm food, the more i am convinced that organic & local farming is the most safe & sane way to go. perhaps this can be done on a small, per household scale or where several households collectively group together to farm and garden food.

this 10 minute youtube video titled Homegrown Revolution - Radical Change Taking Root is a great example of truly inspiring city gardening.

There’s a really great documentary out called “The Future of Food” about GMO crops. You should check it out when you get the chance!

I just love bacon bits, and sliced egg bits on my salad. I wonder if these guys have room for livestock? ;)

sweetiepop: i haven’t seen The Future of Food but i will check it out! there’s a book titled everthing i want to do is illegal that may be similar.

MeatatarianMike: it’s probably not legal for them to actually raise chickens or pigs. most cities designate what can and cannot be done on your property based on zoning. but yes - bacon is good. interestingly & related to bacon, the pigs at monsanto want to patent pigs too!. monsanto is evil.

    thanks for the comments!

Joel Salatin and Polyface Farm sounds amazing! About 1/3 of “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” is all about him and his way of farming- it had great lengthy interviews with him, and covered a lot of what he can and can’t legally do. I really enjoyed reading about it, and would love to visit it!

And funny you mention Monsanto– part of what they cover in The Future of Food is how GMO crops have been approved in the US by the FDA without any real testing, and how we are one of the few countries in the world whose FDA doesn’t legally require that any food product manufactured with GMO crops state it clearly on the label so consumers can be informed about whether or not they are ingesting GMO product. Then they mention how many (government appointed!) key members of the FDA are former Monsanto board members (here’s a hint: almost all of them)…

All this and more uplifting dinner conversation tonight!
