the mighty iTunes mp4 protection has been cracked! from seidai software comes FairGame, software that will convert the songs you purchased on an iTunes store to an unprotected format - keeping all original metadata, artwork, lyric, and album information intact. fairgame has several pre-requisites before it can be used, like having iMovie HD installed and enabling ‘access for assistive devices’ in the universal access control panel. only works on a mac with OSX. but nice to see this happening. buying music from the apple store is like buying a CD that will only play on one specific type of player. kind of nuts, and also kind of a recipe for a monopoly. doesn’t everyone know that the archos media players are worlds better than any ipod (thanks tony!)?. i’m serious. linky via boingboing via thornography.
Also, adrienne sent in this report the other day from BBC, titled itunes copy protection cracked. as music downloaded from an itunes store can ONLY be played on an ipod, the code that prevents music downloaded from Apple’s iTunes store being played on any portable player other than an iPod has been “cracked”. this reverse-engineering has been done by Jon Lech Johansen. his company DoubleTwist hopes to distribute the cracking code to other media player producers. that is great news.
i have to give a big hat tip and a deep waist bow of respect to my good friend jason sadler on his build of the ultimate star wars halloween costume. not a tie fighter pilot mind you, no. this is the actual tie fighter itself! made from trashcan lids, pvc tubing, foam core, four baby food containers, and a whole lot of love. go jason! crush the rebellion!

i’ve been really digging the fantastic art and illustration of r.black. really great graphics, presentation, colors, line quality, and style. lots of dna lounge posters. i love the layout of all of his stuff. they just look so good. browse through his poster/flyer art gallery (and gallery 2 & gallery 3) as there’s so much to see. sexy, pin-up, comic book style illustrations that remind me of old pulp magazines and novels. thank you, r. black!
the third installment of melvin beederman, superhero book series is coming out october 31st. titled the grateful fred, this book has melvin struggling to find out who’s trying to destroy his favorite rock-and-roll band. the book is by greg trine and rhde montijo. my friend rhode, how does he do it? he creates and creates and creates. he just doesn’t stop. he’s like the terminator: a perfect killing machine, except he’s creating. it never ends! i fear all of rhode’s art & creating is cutting into his very important battlestar galactica watching time. there may need to be an intervention.
knots? who needs knots? carrick bend? bowline? trucker’s hitch? trilene? yeah, knots! if you need knots, check out the great site called animated knots by grog! yes, grog. grog seems to love knots. and these knot demos are animated - frame by frame, reversible, fast & slow - so you can learn how to make the knot correctly. how great is that? grog has sections for climbing, fishing, boating/sailing, scouting, search & rescue, and rope care too. a really great resource. i have that trilene knot memorized from my youth. thanks for the link brad!

huh. wow. yeah. so, if you live in texas and you are caught in possession of 6 or more dildos, that is illegal and you are considered a felon. learned that by watching the dildo diaries (thanks brad for the link!). in texas, having 6 or more dildos means you have intent to distribute. yes, dildos. clearly a dire act, worthy of a felony charge. but, if you have only 5 dildos, you’re okay. 5 dildos or less means you are merely a hobbyist. a collector, if you will. actually calling a dildo a dildo in the state of texas is illegal too. you’d best call it an educational model to be safe. somebody laugh, please.
