man, there’s something really good about listening to van halen - david lee roth with van halen - that makes me smile. maybe it’s dave’s voice with the ever-ready ‘eagle cry’ scream. yes! or is that the whole band sounded soo damn great when they were young & raw & strung out on drugs? yes to both actually. then i read a news story saying that a david lee roth re-union with van halen is inevitable. say whuut? crazy. anyway, posted below with much respect and love for the lovely raw powerful rockingness that is van halen are some tracks from the albums van halen, van halen II, women and children first, fair warning, and diver down. it’s friday - you should be rocking out (my bandwidth pending, of course). enjoy!

forget the bird flu - time to catch sasquatch fever, malaysian style! apparently there’s been a rash of bigfoot or ape man or sasquatch sightings in malaysia recently. big footprints found too! does the mighty sasquatch have a malaysian cousin? sounds exciting! so much so that the government of malaysia has began a search expedition to find the malaysian bigfoot. no, this is for realsies! it’s even listed on bfro.net (that’s the Bigfoot Field Reseachers Organization). i am excited.
it’s friday. end of the week. time for laughter. thought i’d post (& link to) some funny sound files of louis c.k. doing stand-up. these are taken from his cd titled Louis C.K. - Live in Houston. it’s really funny - you can buy it direct from louis c.k.’s site if you like. or you can just listen to the samples below. (warning - these mp3s contain swear words & appropriate comedic yelling so be sure to turn the volume WAAAAY up for your co-workers to hear). enjoy!

i love finding old muppet show clips! that show was great. so please watch this vintage clip from the muppet show titled “mahna mahna.” it even ends with a balcony appearance by waldorf and stadler & kermit cameo too. jeeez, what are you waiting for?
don’t know why i thought this was funny. but it is. read about it first on defamer. anyway, apple has ‘celebrity playlists’ on their apple itunes site. so you can see/hear/BUY what your favorite iconic with-no-relation-to best celebrity idol make-believe friend is rocking out to. and for some reason, jerry bruckheimer is on the apple itunes store. hmmmm. so the question today is: can you feel the bruckheimer? I know I’ve been waiting for his celebrity playlist to drop for some time. and now it’s here! and this is from a recently overheard conversation in hollywoood:
——————
dude1 - “hey man, what’s up?”
dude2 - “nothing. just trying to make a mix tape for this party. it’s soo hard.”
dude1 - “yeah, I hear you. hey, you should check out what bruckheimer is listening to these days.”
dude2 - “oh yeah? bruckheimer?”
dude1 - “yeah man.”
dude2 - “wow. good idea. if I could just put half of the emotional impact of a bruckheimer movie into this mix tape, I would have quite a party. you know?”
dude1 - “totally! I hear you. it IS bruckheimer, dude.”
dude2 - ” yeah - gotta go with bruckheimer!!!”
dude1 & dude2 (smiling & yelling while hi-fiving) - “B R U C K H E I M E R !!!!”
——————
and here are some dope jams from the bruckheimer itunes celebrity playlist along with some bruckheimer quotes on each semi-to-completely innocuous song:
Lose Yourself - Eminem: “Believe it or not (and i don’t man to throw out stats) but this is Em’s first #1 hit and also featured in an urban movie (8Mile). If you need inspiration and don’t get it from this song, pack it in.”
In Da Club - 50cent: “Moving rhythm and melody, makes you want to dance.”
Yeah! - Usher: “This might just be the number one party song of all time! The rhythms and melodies make it so much fun.
Remember When - Alan Jackson: “A statement on the circle of life. This song is for the closing credits, as we survey and assess events of our past.”
Clocks - Coldplay: “The band many people call the next U2; this song is a great theme song for just about anything.”
Desperado - The Eagles: ” Is there anything better than the lyrics to this song? Moving and emotional.”
that’s some cutting edge shit. and this post should top off your sarcasm quota for the week as well. -xxxooo
so i am currently playing a game online with 1000’s of other folks called crash the burning man ticket order website. dooodes - it’s sooo fun! started at noon & have been playing for an hour now. i’m at level 3 and should get to fight the big boss soon, right after “operation timed out while trying to contact burn.burningman.com” is over. sweeet! actually, this is kind of lame. get a better server dammit!
man, i can’t wait for like 5 new taco towns to open up in my neighborhood. sure, there’s plenty of great taquerias and mexican food places and eateries. but there’s nothing - nothing - like a super-mega-ultimate taco from taco town! watch and see! gonna loosen up my jaw and head there for lunch right now. thanks jason for the link!
so .. a thought. ever since a swarm of bees made it’s home inside one of the walls of my house 2 years ago (this is common for old houses i guess) i’ve been thinking about being an apiarist (a beekeeper, yo! raising honey bees ‘n shit). not with the bees in my living room walls - no. those bees were safely taken away by a beekeeper a while back. raising bees is just a thought. and also a damn fine reason to invest in a rad costume for my honeybee-raising business! hell yeah! but would raising bees on a rooftop or backyard be doable when i move back to SF, or any major city for that matter? apparently so. according to a study by a French beekeepers’ association, city bees are healthier and more productive than country bees. from the BBC news article:
Urban bees enjoy higher temperatures and a wider variety of plant life for pollination, while avoiding ill-effects of pesticides, the study said.
who knew? anyway, this news makes me happy.
ha-ha! rad! i just found this link via metafilter and couldn’t stop laughing. please watch & enjoy this clip of the aussie comedy group tripod performing their song “Make You Happy Tonight.” nerdy goodnes, and accurate, with the promise of sweet love too. good times.
i have a friend who has been highly focused on me seeing this here clip of a lord of the rings rock band spinal tap type parody. it’s actually pretty funny. the giantmonster nerd scale of 1 to 10 gives it a solid 9. so i’m gonna post it up. thanks derek!
check out this beautiful photo of the cartwheel galaxy taken with the galaxy evolution explorer (GALEX). the cartwheel galaxy is 2.5 times as large as the Milky Way. it’s lovely pulsing cosmic jellyfish look was caused by a collision with a smaller galaxy, creating the rippled effect. from new scientist space:
The galaxy probably came by its distinctive shape when a small galaxy – possibly one of the objects at bottom-left of the image – collided with it head-on 100 million years ago. The crash set off ripples in the large galaxy’s gas that led to concentric rings of star birth.

g-rated folsom street sillyness on the horizon again from a japanese game show with this clip titled hard gay man, or better pronounced “hharr-dhu gaahhy mehhn.” that’s right. leather clad in your face pelvic thrusting does seem to keep the kids from crying. & i’m sure by the title of this post alone i’ll get a lot more traffic then normal. special!
i was very excited to go and see bob odenkirk and david cross at cobb’s comedy club for this years SF Sketchfest this sunday. the show was sold out! good thing i had my ticket bought & waiting at will call. so all looked good. however, the folks at cobb’s comedy club completely oversold the venue. no joke. the security/doorman even said “i’ve never seen it this over-crowded for any sold out show.” there was no room to sit. meaning while i was there, myself and about 6 other ticket holders were turned away. cobbs did issue refunds, but that didn’t cover any service fees charged by ticketweb. personally, it was no worries for me. i ended up having a pretty random & rad day in SF. and the cobb’s folks were nice and willing to refund the ticket price. but it would have been nicer if they just sold the show to capacity in the first place. so this post goes out to all the kids eager to see other sketch comedy venues at cobbs. if you bought tickets to any shows for SF Sketchfest at cobb’s comedy club, here’s fair warning: get there no later than a half hour before the show (earlier if possible). with cobb’s overselling their seating capacity to make extra $$$$, even if you have a ticket and arrive on-time, you might not get a seat. there you go.
to all my dear asian friends: please explain the magic that is this video called Night Of Fire. it seems to feature a rotund asian man (or perhaps the japanese jack black parallel?) wearing snug red speedos and breathing fire whilst dancing & singing with some lovely ladies. very very special. and a lot to absorb for a monday.
not getting enough hours clocked on your upcoming exam for male and female rectal palpation? or maybe you just need a new hobby for 2006? well, this link sent in from juergen should cover both of those needs rather nicely. feel the power of the digital rectal examination simulator - with four interchangeable rectal units included! wow. take this rectal examination simulator with you into any cafe, nightclub, or bar and you’ve got an instant ice-breaker & friend maker. nothing but fun, or butt fun. side note: it’s rather nice when people see a link on rectal study toys and think to email me about it. i am flattered. thank you juergen and random good stuff!
hmmm. okay. it seems that over the weekend the mighty music & entertainment industry was given a warm & powerful enema to clean out all the horrid crap that has been backing up over time. unfortunately, that enema knocked loose some really scary shit. no, rather make that some hasselhoff shit - or am i repeating myself there? anyway, please try to enjoy the dazzling video effects that only a commodore 64 can deliver and watch (or try to) the horror that is david hasselhoff singing hooked on a feeling. what? ooga-chaka? why? warning: you won’t get that 3 minutes and 23 seconds of your life back. also, true hasselhoff horror awaits you here. i’m soo sorry.
it’s friday. while going about your day, please focus and do the best you possibly can to channel the mighty power emanating from this elephant seal’s rad facial expression. hhwwWWAAAHHHHH! thank you.
if you live in california (particularly northern california), then at around 2am on sunday january 15th there’s a great chance for you to see a ‘man made meteor’ - or rather the re-entry of the stardust src capsule. what is the stardust src? it’s a space craft that successfully captured samples from a comet and is now returning to earth. you can read more about the stardust mission via nasa’s website. the re-entry will be fairly bright. and here’s an re-entry elevation map thingy too. also - if you do snap some pics - nasa does want to check out your photos. dooo it!
lately i’ve been digging the music of the doves. lovely sounding stuff. so i thought i’d post some of their songs up to share. you can check out their website too. anyway, please enjoy. here’s just a few …

today i learned what ‘Holoprosencephaly‘ means from reading this article on a cat born with one giant cyclopic eye. in extreme cases of holoprosencephaly, a single eye can be located where the nose should be. this is what happend to a little white kitten named Cy. sadly the cat Cy didn’t survive. RIP lil’ buddy. the image of cy does remind me of something though. creepy.
UPDATE: be sure to check out the poetic and artistic homage to cy via 7deadlysinners blog. good stuff.
looking into installing solar panels on your home? cool - now you can get partially re-embursed for that long term sense of thinking. the california public utilities commission approved a $2.9 billion dollar plan for rebates for residential homes and businesses that install solar panels within the next 11 years. i’ve long thought that any new government buildings should utilize renewable power & incorporate some sort of solar or wind generating power system into the project/structure. the more common solar panel production becomes, the cheaper it will be to use & install. very cool news. you can check if your california energy provider offers discounts/rebates on alternative energy projects in your area.
read this the other day & thought it was neat: The Sloan Digital Sky Survey Reveals A New Milky Way Neighbor. yes! a small or dwarf galaxy (not ‘dwarf’ as in a galaxy of dwarfs, which would be oddly rad, but it’s rather just a small galaxy) found near the constellation Virgo.
At an estimated distance of 30,000 light years (10 kiloparsecs) from Earth, the structure lies well within the confines of the Milky Way Galaxy. However, it does not follow any of Milky Way’s three main components: a flattened disk of stars in which the sun resides, a bulge of stars at the center of the Galaxy and an extended, roughly spherical, stellar halo. Instead, the researchers believe that the most likely interpretation of the new structure is a dwarf galaxy that is merging into the Milky Way.
you can read more about the sloan digital sky survey, the project that made this discovery.
if you’d like to see a really well designed & cool website or would like to hire some highly talented folks to build you a really well designed & cool website, you can do them both by visiting cobra creative.com. my friends mike & dee are the best design & code & build team i know. i think their site is going to be updated sometime soon so be sure to check back on it now & then.
i am done with political posts here. they may come back someday. but right now i am no longer posting politically related info. why? i am tired of the state of politics really. and politics is divisive. pointing out how retarded and greedy the republicans & GOP pundits are behaving is too easy anyway (is that divisive of me?). also, there are plenty of sites for good political information - such as the great crooks and liars, daily kos, the huffington post, on lisa rein’s radar, and media matters to name a few (those sites should be on your daily blog rounds if you stay up on politics anyway). looking to focus more on art, events, the weird, the wonderful, and the whatever. there you go.
yesss. i seem to be guilty of blog neglect. i like to think of it as dormant rather than neglected. anyway, my posts will be not as frequent as when i first began ye old blog. but i am not dead - thanks for your emails asking as such. you are special! & since when did it get to be mid-january 2006 already? yikes.

big mullets? and speedos? with firm buttocks? wow. every once and a while the internet spews forth a video clip that fire-brands weird and/or creepy imagery into your brain. this is such a video. please cringe with me like you’ve never cringed before and watch Lors du Total Crape III, vous verrez. yes, the audio is in french (backed up with a catchy casio samba beat too!). warning, if you watch it - immerse yourself fully & deeply. otherwise you may want that 30 seconds of your life back. right-click & download the clip here. have fun!
my friend brian kalin o’connell has entered the world of the blogosphere. he draws real purdy too and seems to be posting those purdy drawings up for folks to see. so please visit mokshablog.blogspot.com when you get a chance.
2006!! i am baffled as to how fast time has gone by. it’s almost noon here in the shiny new year. outside is very rainy & stormy. wanted to go hiking but i’m gonna definitely stay inside and fire up the fireplace and kick it with a book or two. anyway, many wishes of love and happiness to everyone out there! peace!
