just found out about webjay & it seems pretty cool. but for some reason, i don’t think this can be technically legal. too bad. i think sites like webjay are inevitable. it is a vast treasure trove of music (mostly mp3 & wma files) and videos. searchable too! check it out when you are able. one thing i have gleaned from webjay: most people who are not internet savvy also have terrible taste in music.

are you ready for santa? he’ll be here soon - in many forms. there’s the email virus santa. how thoughtful! then there’s the drunken, rampaging santas in aukland, new zealand. special! for the undead and living alike, zombieclaus is coming to town. more brains! and lest we forget the madness and tomfoolery of santarchy! wow - now that’s christmas! and be sure to check out these great photos by ray olivares from santacon 2005 in new york city. too good. but wait - something is missing. what about krampus? have we forgotten about santa’s pal, otherwise known as krampus? no. just check out the krampus postcards. neat. merry christmas n’ stuff! totally wording up.
this is a beautiful way to capture a moment and specific perspective in time. when you get a minute, please read about the public artwork of ellis gallagher via this NYT article titled Tracing Shadows. some lovely photos in there. more posts on ellis gallagher’s art can be found via bocaca.org, onlytheblogknowsbrooklyn, and abrooklynlife.com.
it’s friday! time to remove your spine and dance with grace and ease! just check out this equally amazing and bizarre video of a highly flexible and bendable woman’s dance routine. wow! crazy! mutant! freak! run, children - run! actually, that’s pretty fantastic. if i were that flexible, i’d never leave the house.
for some intense and strikingly beautiful panoramic night shots of paris, france, please do yourself a favor and visit arnaud frich’s photographs titled Paris, City of Light. they are stunning. they are also pretty big image files, but worth the wait. also be sure to see the rest of arnaud frich’s photos too.
i’ve long suspected that my people - white people - are genetic freaks. finally now there’s proof: Scientists Find A DNA Change That Accounts For White Skin. from the article:
The work suggests that the skin-whitening mutation occurred by chance in a single individual after the first human exodus from Africa, when all people were brown-skinned. That person’s offspring apparently thrived as humans moved northward into what is now Europe, helping to give rise to the lightest of the world’s races.
and when these genetic anomalies known as white folks can get together as brothers and sisters and invent a sunblock pill of SPF 60 or more so i can go outside and not get a massive sunburn - that will be a beautiful day indeed.
i think the ‘W’ in george w. bush now must stand for ‘wiretaps.’ or maybe ‘wow - wiretaps? wonderful!’ it used to stand for ‘worst’ as in ‘worst president ever.’ using the picture to the left, you can play a neat game called ‘find the liar in this picture’ or just click on this link right here (links to quicktime movie). rest assured america, those illegal wiretaps were only used to eavesdrop on terrorists and evil-doers. what’s more disturbing to me is that the new york times actually sat on the wiretapping story until after the 2004 presidential election. more on that time-delayed story in a washington post article. so, um, is that liberal bias? then remind me to cancel my NYT subscription.
the possibility of making big bird’s best friend a present day animal has come a bit closer to being real. scientists have been able to reconstruct a small portion of the DNA code from a 27,000 year old wooly mammoth specimen and believe they can decode the entire genetic makeup. meaning: the woolly mammoth - the 12 foot tall & 7 ton hairy beast - could someday walk on Earth again.
ooooo-kay. do you have a theory as to why david chapelle quit the enormously popular and successful cable show The Chapelle Show? well, here’s a website that claims to have the goods. check out The Chapelle Theory and see for yourself. some of it seems believable while a lot of it reads as highly unbelieveable. found via defamer.
yeah for sanity! i’m happy to read that the senate has rejected extension of the patriot act. basically, the majority of the republican robots failed to reprogram or lull into ‘not-thinking mode’ enough of the semi-free thinking senators (both democrat & republican) to block a filibuster promised by senators (also both democrat & republican) who oppose the patriot act. they needed 60 votes, but only got 52. though touted as necessary for making our country safer, the patriot act and it’s campaign has produced little results. so now without the sentate approval, the more controversial provisions of the patriot act - the expanded roving/multipoint wire taps (which were already expanded in 1998) and the ability to obtain secret warrants to confiscate records from hospitals & libraries & such - will expire december 31st of this year. that means the government cannot spy on you and violate your freedoms and civil liberties! oh wait, nevermind.
it’s friday - time for claymation! behold the hyper-clever and fun and lush / squishy world of this hello kitty claymation movie! this was sent to me by my pal misha klein via saiman chow’s website. saiman chow made the claymation piece for the 30th anniversary Hello Kitty Exhibtion in hong kong. 2 months of work! all lovely! read more here (if you can read it).
my friend charlie canfield has his new website up! for some excellent animation and design skills, please visit charliecanfield.com. lots to see. be sure to check out the clips in the movies section. charlie is kind enough to include his work behind the work in the storyboards section too. his personal short titled hide and seek is quite lovely.
so there’s this website called cute overload dot com. i went to it and my head imploded from all the cuteness. it was exhilarating. now that i’ve recovered, i thought i’d share the link with you. nice to see my friend mark’s super-fun-fun listed on there. that means the folks at cuteoverload.com recognize quality cuteness when they see it.
hey everybody! the maverix holiday party & art auction benefit is tonight! all proceeds raised from tonight’s auction go towards Doctors Without Borders and the Pakistan Red Crescent Society to benefit the many victims of the devastating earthquake that recently struck Pakistan and Kashmir. for a sampling of just some of the artwork, visit the Maverix Studios News blog and also the preview gallery here (don’t miss page 2!). sad news today: the great comic genius richard pryor died today at the age of 65. he died of a heart attack. mr. pryor influenced so many comedians and definitely was a source of big laughs in my life. he co-wrote blazing saddles you know? rest in peace sir.
maybe you’ve seen the ads on the street. or maybe you’ve heard about the controversy about the ads. but basically sony corporation is trying to influence the graffiti culture generation by co-opting graffiti culture & street art style. it seems to have backfired as the very people they are marketing to are rejecting sony’s brand & marketing. wooster collective has a great & very in depth article and perspective on this titled wooster fact checkin’.
it’s friday. finally. time to sharpen your breakdancing skills ’cause you’re going to be breakdancing for the pope. this video may be old, but i just saw it - so it’s new. i also thought it was fake (and i still liked it). but, come to find out it’s not fake nor digitally manipulated, it’s real. crazy. i now have a lovely 400 gigs of data transfer so let’s see how long posting this video lasts. anyway, enjoy. & thank you claudine for the video!!!!
wow. just when you think you have a pretty good collection of sasquatch, bigfoot, and yeti photos, you find someone’s massive archive of yeti photos and assorted oddities. all things yeti! the archive even threw in some sasquatch and bigfoot for good measure (they are related, you know). what i like is that the page is titled ‘achived yeti page 1′ - which means there’s gonna be second page. sweet! link via boingboing. do you know why we’ve never found a yeti (or a sasquatch/bigfoot/yowie/skunkape)? it’s because they know you’re coming - they’re psychic!
hi everybody! my name is apophis, which in ancient egyptian means destroyer. i’m about 390 meters wide & weigh several hundred tons. i enjoy traveling at high velocity, astronomy, ranking high on the torino scale, and secrets! chances are i will be making to earth in about 31 years. so if you’re around and have some free time, let’s hook up!
hey dudes. what’s up? or, s’up? sorry for not posting lately. been working on the abs. you know, some crunches, leg lifts, knee raises, some bicycles, - hey, speaking of abs, what’s up with that kid on the howard stern show?
interesting article in the village voice titled Open And Shut: Four Years Later We Still Have Ten Big Questions covering 10 questions regarding the twin towers and september 11th, 2001.
this is without a doubt the most cool laptop carrying case i have ever seen. totally. rad. genius. DIY. awesome. did i mention he rigged it so the laptop plays through the boombox speakers?
sometimes there aren’t words to describe things. so i’m just going to post this link to a lil’ video clip on goodiebag.tv titled Proper Words and let you watch it. i think you will like it. big fat thanks to the ever-great fecal face dot com & mr. skirvin for posting it. and kids, if you ever see a grown man dressed as a 9 year old playing folks-y guitar tunes at your neighborhood playground - run!
though it was taken back in october, i’d like to thank my friend andrea for capturing me at my sexiest moment. wuuuurd . . . up.

some lovely and accurate billboard re-interpretation of a mcdonalds ‘mcgriddles’ ad in sacramento. thanks via one of the best sites around - wooster collective.
even though the 4th amendment to the U.S. constitution prohibits searches without probable cause, a federal judge has ruled that police have a constitutional right to randomly search passengers’ bags on the new york city subway.
looking for some funding? how about 1 billion dollars? no problem! you can apply for just that amount and some change right now. check out the Strategic City Stabilization Initiative grant for Iraq, or ‘SCSI’ for short. no joke here. $1,020,000,000.00. this is clearly a sign that you did not have a well thought-out exit strategy (nor any plan really) for your last invasion. 1-beeeellion-dohllars could do a lot of good if spent on schools or any number of social issues in the US. or even for some levee repair.
there’s an eeexxcellent interview with phil donahue on time out out new york titled Out In Left Field. it covers when his MSNBC show was cancelled for it’s anti-war stance, the news and media, liberals, conservatives - lots of good stuff. pretty upbeat too. please give it a read. here’s a good quote:
What’s surprising to me is that NBC News had been taking surveys to determine what people watched and what people liked. I mean, the news division is doing focus groups to determine what people like? The news division is supposed to gather the news, whether it makes people happy or not. But we’ve become so corporatized.
well said. speaking of well said, did anyone see phil donahue on that fair & balanced show called the factor with bill o’reilly? you can watch the clip thanks to crooks and liars (quicktime link). it’s a shame more journalists aren’t as intellectually prepared and intelligent as donahue to sift the truth out of all the massive bullshit (.wmv link) and propaganda.
