excellent john cusack opinion

there is an excellent opinion piece written by john cusack on the huffingtonpost. really worth a read as it touches on so many good points. such as ‘where are the democrats?’ very true. my thoughts are that our democratic leaders (who are not & have not been leading) are comfortable sitting back and just watching things fall apart. that is not strength but rather it’s being complacent and weak. this is the same behavior they exhibited that lead us into war and all the abuses of power we see today. that political cowardice means that the republicans will rise and end up taking responsible action. cusack’s post also touches on the power of the Daily Show and the very real dangers of having neocons on the program who get ‘reflected hipness just by sitting across the table from (jon stewart).’ all true. so why aren’t you reading it?

clean green power through bullfrog

bullfrog green power wow. i wish this was available here in california. i’d switch in a second. bullfrog power is the first green power company & electricity retailer - deriving 100% of it’s power from renewable and ecologically safe methods. 20% from wind power and 80% from safe hydroelectric sites. that’s 100% clean power! of course, it’s from canada too. man, those canadians are good.

my pilfered arnold clip

giantmonster arnold video clip well, that arnold clip i was compiling seems to be pretty popular. someone must have saved it or pulled it out of my movies directory and posted it to several different sites. understandable yet frustrating. no links back either, yar! so much for getting a logo put on it. at least the author info on the movie file is intact (for now). i’ll see it appropriated somehwere else soon. anyway, here’s the arnold in brazil video (not hosted by me). and again, big thanks to the person to sent that link out - i’m so glad you listened.

chevron-texaco amazon devastation

chevron texaco toxic contanmination while keeping ANWR in mind, there’s a photo gallery show at san francsico city hall titled Crude Reflections: ChevronTexaco’s Rainforest Legacy. you can view the photo exhibit as a slideshow online. but there’s a lot more to read about and a lot more to see. take a look at the website chevrontoxico.com. you can read about the history of what is called the “Rainforest Chernobyl”.

From 1964 to 1992, Texaco drilled for oil in the northern region of the Ecuadorian Amazon, known as the “Oriente”. The company left 627 open toxic waste pits and other facilities which continue to leak highly toxic waste, affecting more than 30,000 local people.

view maps of Chevron-Texaco’s operations, read about the PR firm hired to mislead the public on the contamination and devastation by Chevron-Texaco. read about the historic case Aguinda v. ChevronTexaco. or just watch a video titled Ecuador’s Black Plague to see for yourself. and here is that same oil company posting record profits (same thing last year) in the face of deliberately dumping 18.5 billion gallons of toxic waste directly into the rainforest. incredible.

beware the nar-dog!

urban beast project urban beast project behold the urban beast project. part taxidermy, part art, and part plush toy animal recycling, the urban beast project “attempts to document and exhibit the almost extinct plight of wild and feral animals living in the midst of our urban areas.” so watch out for the nardog. and stay clear of any canadian chinese water deer that might cross your path. scary.

no more black eyed peas please

time a for a lame but sincere rant: [rant/] is anyone aware of how really retarded the band the black eyed peas are? or how they are a just a well marketed band of fashion models created by the music label industry? how many socially conscious or even semi-underground artists do hummer ads and promotions? i post this lame rant as this weekend a group of 8 year old girls rollerskating by my house were singing ‘My Humps.’ special times. [/end rant].

thanks asshole!

i’d like to give a big sarcastic thanks that special someone who decided to post or forward to the rest of the world that arnold video clip i compiled. you are sooo awesome! thanks! so should i just bill you for my bandwidth charges? let me know.

friday con shatner

shatner sings rocketman it’s friday. all i got for you this week is something you’ve probably already seen. but if you haven’t, oh boy. please strap on your strap-on or your jetpack or both and enjoy this mind-boggling video clip of william shatner sort-of-singing rocketman. rumor has it that this is what turned sulu gay, but again, that’s only a rumor.

mitch hedberg comedy clip

mitch hedberg mitch hedberg was a really funny guy. i loved his nervous delivery style. reminded me of a more coherent and sane wesly willis, only not really. anyway, found this video online and thought i’d share. please enjoy this mitch hedberg comedy clip. it’s from Late Night with David Letterman on February 8th, 2002. more info on mitch can be read here.

needs to get comments going

i need to get comments set up soon. sorry about that. been getting some good emails on some of my posts that would be great to share. like someone who will remain nameless that sees no logic in naming the prehistoric alligator godzilla ’cause it looks nothing like godzilla. good point. all the more reason to get some spam-comment blocking installed and turn on the ability to leave comments. so, yeah, i’ll get to it.

new dinosaur nicknamed ‘godzilla’

new dinosaur neat! evidence of a new jurassic era crocodile has been discovered. the creature has been given the scientific name Dakosaurus andiniensis, but is nicknamed Godzilla. the researchers who made the discovery say the marine reptile lived about 135 million years ago.

set phasers for stun, i mean, fun!

phasr gun do you like lasers? do you like fancy anacronyms? are you looking to ‘dazzle’ your enemy instead of just shoot them? then you’re in luck. The Personnel Halting and Stimulation Response (PHASR) has been developed (no, really - it has) just for you.

LED christmas lights

LED christmas lights from the treehugger website, these great LED christmas lights are awesome! i dig decorating for christmas. but always hated the excess amount of power needed to run lights. well, these LED xmas lights not only look cool, but they use 80% less energy than standard christmas lights. and, they’re LEDs so the bulbs won’t burn out! a store called amberleaves has the best price at $9.95 for a 50 light strand. they are also available at gardener’s supply company (in white too) and brookstone.

ANWR saved too!

what a great last 2 days! first, arnold’s lame reform agenda failed miserably. thank you! and what is reform? limiting the power of teachers and labor unions, or limiting the influence of big business like insurance & drug companies? seriously, what a waste of money. it would have been better to say ‘let’s give this money directly to our schools.’ but no. now, he’s as good as gone. and now today i read Alaskan refuge drilling pulled from House bill. from the SFGate article:

At least 22 Republicans had told the House leadership they would not vote for the sweeping bill unless the drilling provision was removed and they are given assurances that it will not return after House and Senate negotiators hash out a final measure.

so good to hear good news.

$1.05 trillion

i don’t know how many zeros 1.05 trillion is - it’s either 12 or 18 (the number of 0’s depends on where you are from). but i believe $1.05 trillion in the USA is 1,000,000,000,000 + 1,000,000. that is also the amount the Bush Administration has borrowed from foreign nations (mostly china, japan, and saudi arabia) to keep our country afloat. that’s more than all 42 prior administrations combined. so right now our entire economy is kept alive on credit. very very scary. information gathered from the blue dog coalition website.

mediaBoom = rad website

media BOOM my friend michale cobra a.k.a. michael e. cole sent me a link to a rad falsh designed website. mediaBOOM! very cool design and layout using CG rendered backgrounds. great navigation too. give the link a click and check it out.

halliburton cheats Katrina workers

wow - a multinational corporation formerly headed by Dick Cheney has ethics issues? who knew? a lot of illegal immigrants lured over for $10 an hour jobs doing dawn-til-dusk labor on hurricane katrina rebuilding work found out. after weeks of hard work, many immigrants are more than often unpaid for Katrina relief work. this is especially sad for those brought over illegally as they have no recourse. but hey - Halliburton’s bottom line looks awesome!

judicial confirmation hoot-nanny

here’s an excellent article written by Dahlia Lithwick for the slate titled The Dangling Conversation: The One-sided ‘Debate’ About Judges. a well stated piece & accurate piece regarding supreme court justice nomination and confirmation. judicial confirmation hearings have become infomercials for the conservative & religious right. how about another ‘justice sunday’ anyone? Lithwick insists the democrats must get some spine and stand up for real issues during these conservative infomercials, instead of playing along. i agree.

kung-fu fuck you

kung fu f-you! mr miyagi never taught daniel-san the skills of kung-fu middle finger tom-foolery. now you can learn! please check out the ill grainy dubbed video kung-fu fuck you by the ministry of unknown science. nice and funny and dumb. those are compliments. make more please.

sfist SF website

sfist a new website on the goings-on in SF is up. seems to be part of a string of similarly blogged-based websites obsessed with city names and adding ‘ist’ to the end. whatever. they were kind enough to use one of my day of the dead photos and give me a link back (at least to my flickr account). so be sure to check out sfist.com.

mickey rourke meatface

yes, it’s friday, and the offices here at giantmonster corporate headquarters are asking this important question: what the fuck happened to mickey rourke? or just his face? geeez.

US senate OKs drilling in alaska refuge

alaska wildlife refuge map congress is hard at work. certainly not in investigating the falsified information in the lead up to the iraq war. no. but the senate has said yes to big oil by allowing drilling in the artic national wildlife refuge. the senate vote of 52-47 in favor of drilling directs the Department of the Interior to begin selling oil leases within four years in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. so will ANWR oil fill your tank? is it worth it? keep in mind: this oil will not be available for 10 years, will only reduce our dependance on foreign oil imports by 4%, and the damage done to the environment will be irreversible. yes, you can read these entirely bullshit propaganda websites (anwr.org or anwr.com) sponsored by energy & oil companies set up promoting the drilling in the alaska. but drilling in ANWR is just another political favor by the corrupt republican party. The House of Representatives decides next week on whether to keep the drilling measure in the bill. contact your representative and let them know this is no good.

dia de los muertos

day of the dead 2005 day of the dead 2005 i posted pics from last night’s Day of the Dead celebration in SF. 76 photos total - some actually in focus! such a lovely evening. plus there are more photos to see from that night here and here.

million dollar invention #1

simple way to make a million-billion dollars: breathalizer phones - and breathalizer computers too. before you can call on the phone or log-on & type an email, you have to pass a breathalizer test (and maybe a blood test too - just to be safe). if you are drunk or high, then your computer or phone just shuts down. you can’t send any really sappy emails or leave any ‘hi! hey, what’s up? just thinking about you …’ messages. ugh. seriously. and the next day you’ll be so happy and thankful for it. you know this is true!!! you’d make sooo much money. someone, please invent one. now. i’d buy several.

interview with janeane garofalo

Janeane Garofalo campus progress has a great interview with the hot (yeah, i said it) & politically savvy & funny & nerd glasses wearing (!!!!) janeane garofalo. same interview is also running on alter-net. worth a read. man, smart is sexy.

i voted already

yup. absentee ballots seem to be all the rage this very special election. and voting was very easy. my choices went something like this (and in this order): No No No No No No Yes Yes.

buy original art

Upso art Maya Hayuk art Michael Sieben art you can pick yourself up some really lovely original artwork from the recent ‘Fun With Dead Bodies‘ show. brought to you by the rotofungi people. that’s original artwork as in one-of-a-kind no prints kind of artwork by folks like Upso, Paul Urich, Maya Hayuk, eThos, Michael Sieben, and quite a few more. when was the last time you had anything really true, unique, and original in your life? it’s been a while. c’mon, buy some rad artwork already.
